The Roaches Walk, led this week by Ian, was the first of our ‘Middle Distance Training Walks’.
We walked just under 10 miles of lovely undulating paths across two fabulous ridges, lush pathways along the River Dane and the very eerie Luds Church – a natural chasm used by early religious reformers, or even possibly the site described as the setting of the medieval poem Sir Gawain and the Green.
The Roaches is a rocky ridge just inside the Peak District, situated in the middle of Macclesfield, Congleton, Leek and Buxton. We enjoyed amazing views from the ridge across the Cheshire plain, Staffordshire and Derbyshire. If you have never been here is really is worth a visit. There is even the very conveniently placed Wincle Brewery at the end of the walk – brilliant for après walk refreshments.
