We had lovely sunshine for our May day walk which was The Sandstone Trail circular.
We set off from Tarporley at 9.45am for a brisk 6 mile saunter along the Sandstone Trail past Beeston Castle and along the Peckforton Ridge to The Pheasant Inn at Higher Burwardsley for a delicious lunch. If you have not visited this fantastic pub you should put it on your list. It has amazing views – on a clear day you can see as far as Liverpool, and very good food. It is also a great place to stay with very high quality rooms.
No rest for us though; the next leg of our walk took us over to the ‘other side of Cheshire’ with views over to the Pennines. We walked through Peckforton Moss to Bunbury Church and managed to get past The Dysart Arms (another very nice pub) without getting sidetracked. We then dropped down to the Shropshire Union Canal for a short stretch to Tiverton then back along ancient tracks to Tarporley where we enjoyed tea and scones at The Swan. A perfect (13 miles) day out!!
